Severe insomnia

Then, Insomnia.

Where from?

Don’t know —

Scruples of mind

And the mind rebellious,

Awake,

Fumbling in this world

Chasing a mirage.

What does a person think of after they fulfilled their animalistic instincts?

What does a person think of?

Homeland?

Family?

Humanity?

God? Or a higher power?

Or the destruction that accompanies the world?

Or of orphans, who wander amidst destruction?

The tears from a child’s eyes leaves us with one question:

Why? Tell me my friend!

What should a person think of?

When you come to bed, at night,

You close your eyes shut, and when the world is asleep —

All your senses awake in your body.

You wish you were a machine with an on/off button

Turn it OFF! Turn it OFF!

Or you can stay awake and spend the night with the angels.

ps- I originally wrote this in the early 1990s and published it in my book The Traveler in 2011. I was thinking of home and Palestinian Children.
